About Bernard

In Bernard’s role as an Associate Director with Avison Young, he oversees all aspects of property management for a portfolio totaling over 800,000 square feet in the Washington DC area, consisting of office, retail and GSA tenants. The portfolio is owned by a local private investment client that has assets located in various areas nationally.

Bernard oversees a team of 10 real estate professionals, hospitality staff, and engineers on this assignment. His responsibilities include strategic asset planning, budgeting, financial reporting, capital/tenant improvement project management, owner/tenant relations, sustainability implementation, engagement with leasing teams on negotiations/tours, contract management, and lease administration.

Bernard’s strengths are his interpersonal skills with clients, understanding the strategy and vision of an asset, executing those initiatives to maximize and increase asset value for the client. Bernard possesses a strong financial acumen, allowing him to prioritize objectives based on the client’s goals.

Bernard has over 16 years of experience in commercial real estate in Washington DC. He has represented a wide range of large institutional/international clients to local smaller investment firms. Bernard’s expertise covers long term hold assets to value-add assets with aggressive improvements and lease up initiatives. Bernard is an active member of AOBA, IREM and BOMA. He possesses his Washington DC salesperson license, RPA and LEED Green Associate certifications.

A few key career highlights for Bernard include repositioning an asset from a single user to multi-tenant with amenities; overseeing a full building redevelopment converting Class B to Trophy asset status; implementing sustainability initiatives such as LEED EB: O+M and Energy Star certifications for managed assets.
