BOMA Canada’s Smart Building certification will set a global standard

Toronto, ON – Global real estate advisor Avison Young is among an exclusive group across North America participating in a pilot project to measure how technology and sustainability improve tenant experience and deliver value.

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA Canada) will test its BOMA BEST Smart Buildings Certification Program in 15 buildings in various markets, including Toronto’s Avison Young-managed 390 Bay Street.

A program unlike any other, it will set a global standard that considers key technology performance factors: artificial intelligence; cyber and physical security; data management; and connectivity. Other performance factors are sustainability, health and well-being.

“Among our priorities at Avison Young is to find new ways to use technology to improve occupant experiences and support sustainability. The BOMA Canada smart building pilot project speaks to these needs so we are very proud to be a part of it,” says Neil Lacheur, Avison Young’s Executive Vice President and Principal of Real Estate Management Services, Canada. “We look forward to measuring the results, and we hope to see marked improvements in efficiency and effectiveness that can be carried forward to our entire managed portfolio of properties.”

Avison Young manages more than 20M square feet of properties across Canada, with a focus on industry-leading technology and integrated, sustainable solutions that support clients’ strategic objectives. Resources and policies are prioritized using the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals – the world’s blueprint for a sustainable future – focusing on clean energy and climate action, good health and social justice, and sustainable cities and responsible consumption.
