Retains Best Managed designation for ninth consecutive year for overall business performance and sustained growth

Toronto, ON Avison Young today announced it has been recognized as a 2020 winner of the prestigious Canada’s Best Managed Companies Platinum Club designation, retaining its Best Managed designation for the ninth consecutive year. The 2020 Best Managed program winners are amongst the best-in-class Canadian owned and managed companies with revenues over $25 million demonstrating investment in talent and technology, innovation in a competitive environment, and an increased focus on global competition.

Canada’s Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s leading business awards programs. Every year, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies compete in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates the calibre of management abilities and practices.

“This year’s Best Managed winners are a testament to the success found when businesses are deliberate about seizing the opportunity to do better; they invest in game-changing technology, commit to their corporate purpose and social responsibility, and solidify their place on the world stage,” said Kari Lockhart, Partner, Deloitte Private and Co-Leader, Canada’s Best Managed Companies program. “Canada’s Best Managed Companies celebrate a community of the strongest private businesses that shape our country and fuel Canada’s competitiveness, creating sustainable economic growth in an evolving global market.”

As a different kind of commercial real estate company, Avison Young is owned and operated by its Principals, which fosters a collaborative culture that is focused on driving results for clients. With its roots in Canada and legacies dating back more than 200 years, the firm continues to grow rapidly to help clients solve their most complex challenges. Over the last decade, Toronto-headquartered Avison Young has grown from hundreds real estate professionals in 11 offices in Canada to thousands of professionals in more than 100 offices in 14 countries.

“Best Managed recognizes that better managed companies lead to happier employees, lead to stronger communities, lead to a better world, and we are humbled to again receive this distinction,” said Mark Rose, Chair and CEO of Avison Young. “As a private and Principal-owned and led company, we foster a collaborative culture that puts the needs of our clients, our employees and our communities at the heart of our business decisions.”

Applicants are evaluated by an independent judging panel comprised of representatives from program sponsors in addition to special guest judges. 2020 Best Managed companies share commonalities that include (but are not limited to) a clear and concise strategy, capability to invest in R&D, tools and proprietary equipment, and a strong emphasis on corporate social responsibility.

“CIBC congratulates 2020’s Canada’s Best Managed Companies, who are not only at the forefront of their industries, but among privately held companies across Canada,” said Dino Medves, Senior Vice President and Head, CIBC Commercial Banking. “The success of these companies is built on continued investment in top talent, an ongoing focus on innovation and a well-defined path for the future.”

2020 winners of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies award will be honoured at the annual Canada’s Best Managed Companies gala in Toronto on April 1, 2020.
