Boston MBTA public transportation ridership continues to recover
MBTA Monthly Ridership Since January 2020

- Ridership on Boston’s public transportation system continues to rebound, gradually approaching pre-pandemic levels. The commuter rail has experienced the strongest recovery, reaching 92% of its pre-pandemic benchmark. Buses follow closely, with ridership at nearly 83% of benchmark levels. The subway, however, remains the slowest to recover, currently operating at just 64% of its pre-pandemic ridership.
- The recovery in public transportation ridership aligns with the ongoing increase in office visitations across Boston, as more companies implement return-to-work policies that are drawing commuters back into the city.
