About Derek

Derek Jacobs helps clients and colleagues make sense of complex market data, leading the healthcare group within the U.S. Market Intelligence team and supporting the practice through research, reporting, and thought leadership that brings a deeper understanding of healthcare real estate.

With a particular focus on medical outpatient buildings at both the market and asset levels, Derek leverages data to identify the highest and best use of medical assets, as well as the optimal locations for healthcare tenants. Grounded in the belief that demand drivers are the foundation for every market or asset analysis, his process begins by assembling a broad set of relevant data points, then rigorously comparing and evaluating them to surface the factors that matter most.

A member of the Market Intelligence team since 2022, Derek joined as an analyst in the Raleigh-Durham market and has since become a trusted resource within the firm. His dual American and Canadian perspective informs his work: raised in the United States, he completed his undergraduate studies in Canada before returning home. With a mother who practices dentistry and a family of physicians and healthcare professionals, Derek also brings a personal connection to his role as healthcare lead.
