About Derek

Derek Cuschieri brings years of multifaceted industry experience to Avison Young, dating back to his start in Commercial Real Estate in 2005. Derek represents and advises clients on both a local and national basis with their office/R&D space requirements. Derek’s goal is to develop a comprehensive real estate strategy which includes market evaluation, financial analysis, space planning, lease & sale negotiations and post transactional support. Derek is consistently recognized as one of Avison Young’s top emerging leaders and prides himself on providing the best service for every client that he works with.

Prior to joining Avison Young, Derek worked for a local competitor where he was awarded the prestigious designation of Rookie of the Year in 2017. Prior to getting started in brokerage, he worked as a superintendent for a commercial general contractor where he managed ground-up and tenant improvements construction projects throughout the Bay Area. At the beginning of Derek’s Career, he aspired to be an architect and worked for an architectural firm where he specialized in office and healthcare design.

Derek lives in San Jose with his wife Kaylyn and his two children, Aubry and Landon.
