I-ONE Steel and Avison Young announce strategic partnership to advance U.S. green steel project

Proposed Texas facility targets 5 million tons of annual premium steel production and represents an estimated investment of more than $5 billion and 2,000 new jobs

Houston, TX — I-ONE Steel and global commercial real estate advisor Avison Young announced today they have entered into a strategic partnership to support the development of I-ONE Steel’s proposed next-generation green steel production facility in Texas, with two more future strategic locations throughout the U.S.

The initial Texas facility is designed to produce approximately 5 million tons of premium steel annually, utilizing iron ore supplied from Brazil and advanced steelmaking technologies intended to deliver high-quality steel with a significantly reduced environmental footprint. The project represents an estimated investment of more than $5 billion, with initial production currently targeted for the end of 2029. It will also create approximately 2,000 new jobs. 

Under the partnership, Avison Young will serve as I-ONE Steel’s exclusive real estate advisor and will work alongside the company in support of its capital-raising and project development initiatives. The Avison Young team includes Darrell Betts, Jessica Alexander and Austin Stacey. Several potential locations have been identified in Texas. 

The project is being developed at a time when the United States is placing increasing emphasis on strengthening domestic manufacturing, securing critical industrial supply chains and reducing dependence on imported materials.

I-ONE Steel is assembling an experienced international management and technical team run by Fernando Mendoza, I-ONE Steel CEO and President, to develop the project, with safety, operational excellence and environmental performance forming core elements of the facility’s design.
The I-ONE Steel project is intended to establish a vertically integrated supply chain extending from iron-ore resources in Brazil through steel production in Texas, providing a long-term platform for supplying premium steel to U.S. infrastructure, manufacturing and industrial customers.
