About John

John Crotty has built a career defined by preparation, discipline, and a consistent ability to deliver results for institutional and private clients across the full spectrum of commercial real estate.

Over the course of his 20+ year real estate career, John has completed more than $5 billion personally and over $16 billion as part of South Florida Capital Markets team. He brings deep expertise in investment sales, distressed assets, and receivership, work that demands not only market knowledge and experience, but a level of integrity and discretion that clients can rely on in their most sensitive assignments. Whether navigating complex REO dispositions, non-performing note sales, or Bankruptcy Court auctions, John has earned the trust of major institutional lenders and investors—including Bank of America, LNR, Rialto, and other court related receivership and trustee driven sales—by consistently delivering results with professionalism and care.

John has also cultivated strong, long-standing relationships with owners across the retail sector, giving him a broad perspective on the market and the people who drive it. That depth of relationship, built over years of honest dealings and follow-through, is as much a part of his practice as any individual transaction.

What sets John apart is the breadth of experience he brings to every engagement. Before entering commercial real estate, he spent 12 years as a professional basketball player in the NBA, a career that instilled a level of focus and competitive preparation that translates directly to how he approaches his work today. In tandem with his basketball career, John spent 13 years as president of Crotty Inc., operating successful youth sports camps across New Jersey and Florida. Earlier in his real estate career, John completed an NBA-sponsored internship at the New York Stock Exchange, before working in financial advisory roles at Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

In addition to being an Avison Young Circle of Excellence top-producing broker in North America, John is currently the television broadcaster for the Miami Heat and an 8-time Emmy Award winner. Balancing his passion of commercial real estate and professional basketball, John offers a perspective and a network that is genuinely uncommon in this business, and one that consistently resonates with clients long after the transaction is complete.
