About Matthew

Matthew Schnürr is Partner in the Avison Young Capital Markets Group, specializing in Structured Finance and Investment Sales.  He and his partners have concluded over $31B of sales, $6B of structured finance and $8B of debt placements.  

Throughout his career, Mr. Schnürr has successfully completed equity, debt and structured finance transactions on office, industrial, residential and retail properties. He has created financial restructuring of developer portfolios which incorporated institutional joint venture participation. Additionally, he has executed trades of non-performing first mortgages and a significant volume of REO sale transactions, as well as DPO transactions. 

Prior to Avison Young, Mr. Schnürr was Co-Head of the Transwestern New York Structured Finance platform. Prior, he was employed by Grubb & Ellis in their Institutional Investment Group, and at CB Commercial as a member of their Institutional Services Group. 

Mr. Schnürr was additionally employed in the corporate finance department of Drexel Burnham Lambert. His responsibility within the department was to originate new client business. Well over $4 billion of new businesses was generated in high yield fixed income transaction, real estate syndication placements and economic development bond financing. A notable real estate syndication included participation with Integrated Resources on the US Steel Corporate headquarters facility in Pittsburgh, PA.

From 1978 to 1983, Mr. Schnürr was engaged in public accounting and specialized in the area of federal taxation.

Matthew was a  Seton Hall University graduate in Accounting, Biology and Psychology.

He has completed numerous continuing education courses at the New York Institute of Finance, including Technical Analysis, Risk Arbitrage and Options Strategies.

Matthew was also the Captain of the fencing team at Seton Hall University.

Outside interests include mountain and road biking, traveling and motorcycle sport-touring, having recently explored the Alps from Germany to Monaco.
