Avison Young in Tampa
The city of Tampa was recently ranked by Money magazine as the “Best City in the Southeast,” and by WalletHub as both the #1 best city in Florida in which to live and the #15 best in the United States. More than 3.8 million people live in the Tampa Bay area (Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties), which is currently home to 18% of Florida´s population and labor force, and Tampa itself was recently named the 3rd fastest growing city in Florida by the U.S. Census Bureau. Additionally, the city is a growing global gateway, benefiting from a world-class international airport that is routinely ranked as one of the best airports in the nation by J.D. Power & Associates and Travel + Leisure Magazine, the closest deep-water, post-Panamax ready port to the Panama Canal, and an extensive interstate system. The pivotal I-4 Corridor linking Tampa with Orlando also offers accessibility to roughly 20 million people within a 5-hour drive time, which is critical for the flourishing logistics industry and one of the primary reasons why Amazon is planning a $100 MM air cargo hub in Lakeland.
Tampa Bay is home to 20 corporate headquarters with over $1 billion in annual revenue, eight of which are Fortune 1000 companies, in addition to being the location of choice for nearly 500 foreign-owned companies representing over 40 nations. Widely considered the “Wall Street of the South,” the financial and professional services industry is the fastest-growing sector in Tampa Bay with year-over-year employment gains, and nearly one in four business and information services firms in Florida are located in the region. Tampa also leads the state in high-wage STEM jobs and is an emerging leader in the areas of cybersecurity and data science, in addition to being home to MacDill Air Force Base. MacDill is the only military installation that hosts two, four-star Combatant Commands, U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) and U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). A $14 billion military industry has developed around areas such as cybersecurity and information technology, intelligence and analysis, training and simulation, and advanced manufacturing.
