Ian heads our Rights of Light team, a specialist unit that delivers expert advice to developers, residents and local authorities on a range of neighbourly matters. His enviable track record stretches back to the early 1980’s, when he graduated with a degree in Building Surveying.

Since then, Ian has worked on innumerable projects across the country, firstly as an associate for Michael Brooks, then as a partner at Schatunowski Books, and ultimately in his present position here.

His reputation within the industry as a leading Rights of Light consultant has made him an ideal expert witness in cases such as Tamares v Fairpoint, CLRP v Midtown and numerous planning appeals - most recently for 100 Avenue Road in Camden. He also acts as expert witness for injured parties seeking redress through the courts. Ian’s strategic advice helps developers to maximise the potential of their site without risking claims for loss of light. He also provides detailed negotiation advice in situations in which Rights of Light issues exist around a site, helping the parties to reach a settlement that unlocks the development process.
