Peter Sherman joined Avison Young as a Principal in February 2016 and is currently a Principal and on the Executive Committee of U.S. Capital Markets leading Multifamily Capital Markets including Investment Sales and Development for the country. For almost 20 years, starting in 2004, Peter Sherman has led or been directly involved in over $10 Billion of deal transactions throughout Southern California and across the United States.
At Avison Young, Peter Sherman has led a strategy that is highly collaborative and brings a complete approach to solutions for clients with a local-to-global knowledge of capital, markets and players, and a deep expertise at the asset level from pre-construction to value-add. Residential and mixed-use asset type experience runs the gamut including conventional and affordable, student housing and senior housing, build-for-rent and adaptive reuse.
Peter Sherman’s clientele has included top brand name institutions, multifamily and mixed-use developers, private high net worth operators and national and international capital providers. This holistic approach to client service is witnessed by the range of notable transactions which include an $84M sale of conventional + affordable multifamily (370 units); a $54M financing for adaptive reuse construction (125 units + retail); a $34M acquisition of affordable multifamily (206 units); a $22M sale of student housing (250 beds); a $35M reposition of office to residential (280 units); a $24M preferred equity for mixed use (218 units + 14,500sf retail); and a $30M sale of mixed-use developable land (1.3 acres for multifamily/retail/office).
Prior to Avison Young, Peter Sherman was a founding Partner of Brooktree Real Estate Investors, a principal sponsor and owner/operator of Class A and Class B multifamily properties across the state of California, acquiring, selling, financing and equitizing $1 Billion in multifamily and mixed-use assets. Peter Sherman has also held senior roles with CBRE and Transwestern.
Prior to 2004, Peter Sherman successfully created, grew and managed new businesses in media and technology notably with NBC Universal and Tonos Music. Peter Sherman led strategic development and successfully negotiated innovative partnerships valued at over $300 million with various including AEG, Time Warner, Yahoo, Atlantic Records, and Best Buy.
Peter Sherman earned a dual master’s degree from the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies in 1996, and a BA from the University of Virginia in 1988. Peter is conversational in Japanese and Italian, having been blessed to live abroad in both countries.
